Overview
Cel mai recent album al trupei care a facut fani intregi sa fredoneze "bunica bate a" se intituleaza Basta Mafia si reprezinta prima colaborare a Zdob si Zdub cu un producator strain, Marc Elsner.[:en]Zdob and Zdub have realized a unique combination, mixing the sound of popular music with rock, hip-hop and drum n bass, in a style they defined as Moldavian hardcore. The band, an idea started by school friends Roman, Anantol and Mihai, steadily took over the musical industry. The boys played and recorded songs by The Beatles and Roxette on magnetic tapes, until they decided to work in a more organized manner, with rehearsals and well defined parts inside the band. Zdob and Zdub's first demo, Lost World released in 1994, also brought them their first important gig at the Learn to Swim festival in Moscow, returning just two years later as opening act for the legendary Rage Against the Machine. Over the years, Zdob & Zdub have become one of the most highly praised rock bands in both Moldova and Romania, but with concerts all over Europe: Hungary - Sziget, Denmark - Roskilde, Serbia- Exit, France - Sin Fronteras, Belgium - Esperanzah!, Switzerland - Open Air Gampel, Germany - Krefelder Folkfest, Tanz, Folk Festival Rudolstadt, S.O.M.A., The Czech Republic - Rock For People, Colours of Ostrava, Slovakia - Aerorock, OKEY Leto Fest, Hodocvas, Poland - Woodstock, Romania - Fete de la Musique, Stufstock, Peninsula, Folk You, The Netherlands - EuroSonic, Mundial, Russia - Maxidrom, Nashestvie, Krilya. Not only that, but Zdob and Zdub have opened up for important names in world music: The Garbage, Linkin Park, Fun Lovin' Criminals, Red Hot Chilli Peppers or Emir Kusturica & No Smoking Orchestra. The band's latest album, after making fans happily sing "bookinca beat the drum", is Basta Mafia, their first release after working with a foreign producer, Marc Elsner.[:]
